The Woodcote (Golf) Trophy

Mike Farrin wrote to me soon after the 30 Section Dinner.

‘Dear Maurice, I thought your jokes were much better this year – or maybe I’d had a few more beers than usual. Most enjoyable. Take care of yourself (and that jacket). Best wishes – Mike. P.S. Perhaps you could include the enclosed in the next Newsletter. Thanks’.

‘In 1990 Colin De’Ath, Neil Ockenden and Michael Farrin decided that a golf tournament would be a good prelude to the 30 Section Dinner held every year, usually at the end of October. Being a competitive lot we felt that a trophy needed to be provided, and the Ockenden family, led by Neil, very kindly donated such a trophy.

Congratulations to the present holder of the trophy, Duncan Ponikwer, who fought off strong challenges from Ray Alston, in second place, and Geoff Dodwell, in third place. Duncan was very proud and happy to accept the trophy at the dinner on the 4th November, particularly as he was able to impress his new girlfriend Carolyn and to direct her attentions from the amorous advances she was receiving from another quarter.

Anyone wanting to play in future years can contact Michael Farrin on 01737 552166.
