The
John Fisher Old Boys’ Association Golf Day was held on the 7th
September 2007 at our usual venue of Knole Park Golf Club, Sevenoaks.
This
year’s event was held in beautiful weather and attracted a field of 19 players
This
was the 34th year that this event has been staged and the 29th year
it has been held at Knole Park. Duncan
Ponikwer won the Pride of Peaks Hill Trophy this year with a stableford score of
36 points, with Jack Youll the runner up also with 36pts but losing the trophy
on countback. The
Coughlan’s Challenge Shield foursomes competition was won by Duncan Ponikwer
and Alan Willets with 36 pts. Chris
Ridgers and Hamish Keith were second, again with 36 pts but losing on countback.
Unfortunately,
there were several absentees among the regulars mostly through no fault of their
own. Tony Avery has had
surgery on his mouth, Anthony Whale was suffering from a mystery foot complaint,
which necessitated him missing a match on the previous day as well with old
Purley Sports Club members, Michael Whale was commanded to go to Verona with
Madeleine and her brother and Dick Kelly was off buying another restaurant to
add to his portfolio.
If
any other golf playing Old Boys would like to play in next year’s event please
get in touch with Duncan Ponikwer or Bob Whicher, we can’t promise you
anything except a great day’s golf, good food and a great deal of fun.
The
next event for golfers is on the 26th October 2007, an individual
stableford competition for The Woodcote Trophy, which was presented by the
Ockenden family. This will be
held at Woodcote Park Golf Club, the same venue as the dinner for the over 30
section held the same evening. Please
let Mike Farrin or Colin de’Ath know if you are able to attend.
